Funding Priorities

Program Support: $5.0 million

Program support will supplement critical needs within the college such as updating technology, providing faculty and student awards for excellence, strategic planning for new programs and degrees, guest speakers and consultants, and travel support for students and faculty to enhance global awareness and international opportunities.

The Beaver College of Health Sciences Dean's Club for Excellence is an annual giving society designed to supplement programmatic needs within the college. Dean's Club members will provide much needed support to many unfunded projects.

Program support monies will also assist the North Carolina Research Campus (NCRC) with housing Appalachian students and faculty while conducting research, as well as for infrastructure. Appalachian is one of seven state universities in partnership with the NCRC in Kannapolis. The Appalachian/NCRC connection is through the Human Performance Laboratory in the Beaver College of Health Sciences. The NCRC is conducting world-renowned research with nutritional supplements that has a direct impact on health promotion and disease prevention.

Scholarship Endowments: $2.5 million

Scholarships are critical to attracting and retaining the best undergraduate and graduate students. Current support for scholarships will be an important component for the college and is vital to a newly formed unit. We are currently at a competitive disadvantage when compared to similar programs in health sciences. The endowment focus helps ensure the college's future and is equally as significant. The college seeks to support both merit-based and need-based scholarships. Scholarships may be named for donors as well as in honor or in memory of loved ones. Endowments may be funded at the minimum level of $25,000.

Endowed Professorships: $2.5 million

Endowed professorships will provide critical funding to recruit and retain nationally recognized and distinguished teachers and scholars. Their leadership in developing new programs and degrees, mentoring our students, developing innovative and meaningful scholarships and partnering with health care agencies and companies is paramount to developing national programs of distinction. These opportunities provide distinguished honor with which the Beaver College of Health Sciences can attract and reward its most talented faculty members.
