New Building

Investing the Beaver College of Health Sciences Campus

North Carolinians recognized the importance of support for education by approving the NC Connect Bond on March 15, 2016. Our university will receive $70 million to build a state-of-the-art teaching and research facility for the Beaver College of Health Sciences, one of only two shovel ready projects in the state.

Due to the unprecedented growth of the college, the six departments are located in seven buildings across the Appalachian campus, making collaboration and instruction challenging.building

The proposed building will encompass 203,000 gross square feet on a 9.2 acre parcel of land, adjacent to Watauga Medical Center, generously donated by Appalachian Regional Healthcare System (now UNC Health Appalachian). The expansion provides a central location for 14 of our 16 disciplines to engage in experiential training together in shared spaces – simulation laboratories, assessment rooms, treatment rooms and many others.

Graduates from the college will have the inter-professional skills needed to be contributing members of the healthcare profession, advance in their respective fields and enhance the quality of life and health in our state and beyond.
