Dr. Leah Hamilton Awarded Two Grants on Minimum Basic Income

Dr. Leah Hamilton, Associate Professor of Social Work, Faculty Affiliate of the Social Policy Institute at Washington University in St. Louis and Research Fellow in the Blue Cross NC IHHS, has added two grants this year to her ongoing research on minimum basic income. This work was first funded by the Hudson Up project and is gaining momentum as policy makers begin to understand the potential impact of this work.

Unconditional Cash Transfer Pilot Mixed-Methods Evaluation, Co-Principal Investigator (2022-2025), Project Community Connections, $138,000. Project Community Connections, Inc. (PCCI) is a non-profit serving individuals experiencing homelessness in the Atlanta area. In this randomized controlled trial, 200 current clients will be randomly assigned to A) a treatment group receiving regular case management, housing assistance, and an unconditional $400 per month for twelve months and B) a control group receiving the same services without the additional cash assistance.

Georgia Resilience and Opportunity Fund Program Evaluation, Principal Investigator (2022-2024), Give Directly, $350,505. In Her Hands is a guaranteed income initiative focused on putting a solution to financial insecurity in the hands of women in Georgia with no strings attached. This mixed-methods evaluation is based upon a Community Based Participatory Research model to prioritize community expertise and decision-making.
