Dr. Alan Utter Named Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Texas Woman's University

Alan Utter

Alan Utter, Ph.D., M.P.H., currently serves as the Interim Vice Provost for Research and a professor in the Department of Health and Exercise Science. Dr. Utter has been a valued member of the Appalachian State University faculty since 1995 and as Dr. Kelly Cole, Chair of the Department of Health and Exercise Science said, “Alan’s capable leadership in the area of research administration will be greatly missed.” Dr. Scott Collier, Exercise Science Program Director had this to say, "Alan was one of the first people I met at Appalachian and I watched Alan take a relatively small degree program and start a tranformation into what is now a degree in Public Health. He has also helped faculty increase their research scope and reach in his present position by providing infrastructure to help at the individual level." Utter shared, “It has been an honor and privilege to work with so many outstanding students, faculty, staff and administrators here at Appalachian State University, and to all of them I say thank you. I am looking forward to this next challenge at Texas Woman’s University. Finally, as a Professor of health and exercise science for the last 22 years, I would be remiss if I did not encourage my colleagues and friends in the Appalachian community to keep exercising!”

Please join us in recognizing and thanking Alan for his numerous and significant contributions to Appalachian as we wish him continued success in his new role with Texas Woman’s University starting in July.
