Health Promotion for Faculty and Staff

Health Fair Nursing students 2017

Health Promotion for Faculty and Staff hosted another successful Health Fair October 27, 2017, in the Plemmons Student Union. Over 400 employees and 20 vendors attended the “Think Your Health is a Game? THINK AGAIN!” themed event.

The annual employee health fair, sponsored by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Institute of Health Services, a division of the Beaver College of Health Sciences, promotes health awareness and disease prevention and increase awareness of local, state and national health services and resources for Appalachian State University employees by providing health screenings, educational information, and related activities.

In addition to the educational and health screening measures, attendees received giveaways from various vendors, refreshments throughout the day, from Appalachian State University’s Food Services, and an opportunity to get ahead of the influenza season, by acquiring their flu shots, from the Appalachian Regional Health Department and Appalachian State University’s Nursing Program.

Tracy Weston, the organizer of this year’s event stated, “The annual employee health fair continues a tradition of partnerships between the university campus and the community of Boone and surrounding areas.  It is great to bring people together and help direct them to a healthier lifestyle.”
