Boone, N.C. — Yancey Luft graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from Appalachian State University. Since graduating Luft has been employed as a Labor and Delivery nurse with the Cone Health Women’s and Children’s Center at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

Luft loves her job and is passionate about caring for others. Her dedication and compassion were recognized by her colleagues when she received this year’s Cone Health Nursing Excellence Award. According to Cone Health, “The Cone Health Nursing Excellence Award is an award where coworkers nominate nurses that they feel demonstrate Cone Health’s values of caring for our patients, caring for our communities and caring for each other. The nominations are then brought to a committee that chooses the best of the best.” And Luft was one of the best in 2020!

“I was surprised to receive this recognition after only four years. I feel like there are so many other amazing nurses that deserve this award, so for me to have been selected out of such an incredible team only makes this award all the more special to me,” said Luft.

When asked what has made her such a special nurse, Luft was quick to give her Appalachian nursing faculty credit. “Appalachian’s nursing program prepared me so well for the real world of nursing. The professors have always been there for me and I know I can go to them to this day if I have something I need help with. The clinicals were fantastic and I graduated with the knowledge that prepared me to become the nurse I am today because of the education and support I received from Appalachian.”
