Assistant professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders Dr. Louise Keegan was awarded a 2015-2016 Advancing Academic-Research Career (AARC) Award by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). The award provides $5,000 to support Keegan’s research.
The AARC award was designed to support the academic-research careers of junior-level faculty in the field of communication sciences and disorders. The award differs from many research grants because it requires proposals to include both teaching and research components. Applicants work with mentors to develop teaching and research plans tailored to the applicant’s career stage.
Due to positive influence of previous awards, ASHA expanded the AARC program from six to ten awards in 2015. Two awards are specifically designated for applications focusing on mentored activities related to both teaching and conduct of clinical practice research.
ASHA is the national professional, scientific, and credentialing association for 182,000 members and affiliates who are audiologists; speech-language pathologists; speech, language, and hearing scientists; audiology and speech language pathology support personnel; and students.
